Very simply...
...A very Happy New Year!

To all of those who made 2008 so special to me - and that's the lot of you, isn't it? - thank you so very much! I made tons of new friends this last year, all over the world, and I hope to see you all again in the next. (And in some particular cases, actually meet you for the first time! Oh yes. You know who you are.)

Wishing us all a rather splendid 2009!

(I'm lying. I admit it. First, you're not gonna wind up in Tasmania, so I'd only be wasting good wine, wouldn't I? Secondly, I can just drive down the road half an hour and buy more of the good wine in question, so why should I stick it in a dodgy bin under my shed in the meantime? So, you know, if you DO come to Tasmania, you have to give me at least half an hour's notice so I can go and buy some decent wine and pretend I was saving it for you...)

Just remember for you next book, stick the words 'Harry Potter and the...' at the start. Voila, instant and deserved bestseller (we'll gloss over any possible subsequent shenanigans with Bloomsbury's legal department or readers unhappy that Potter doesn't even get mentioned).

Anyway, may it be a wildly successful and satisfying year and I apologise in advance for wrecking it for you by being at Gally in six weeks.
